This quite clean, all-original 1988 JEM77 FP is a standout example of Steve Vai’s iconic signature model. Astoundingly, this first year Floral Print JEM has escaped the typical neck pocket finish cracks that often plague these guitars—none to be found here (see photos). The neon pink DiMarzio pickup covers show their age along with the headstock logo - typical for first year FPs. Minimal fret wear and some dings around the edges as photographed. Only light surface scratches on the floral finish, which remains vivid and crisp. Includes the original hardshell case with burgundy interior and whammy bar. A truly rare specimen for players and collectors alike.
First introduced in 1988, the JEM77 FP—short for “Floral Pattern”—was part of the original wave of Steve Vai signature models. Its eye-catching finish was inspired by curtains in Vai’s own home, achieved by laminating floral fabric to the body, then edging it in black and sealing it with a clear coat. This method makes each example subtly unique, and its visual flair helped solidify the JEM series as one of Ibanez’s most celebrated designs.
Basswood Body & Maple Neck – Lightweight and resonant, paired with a smooth-playing maple neck built for speed.
Rosewood Fingerboard with Green Vine Inlay – 24 frets of visually striking playability, with scalloping on the upper frets for expressive bends and fast soloing.
Pink DiMarzio Pickups – Original PAF Pro humbuckers and JEM single-coil deliver rich, articulate tone with plenty of harmonic bite.
Iconic JEM Details – Includes the signature monkey grip handle, lion’s claw tremolo cavity, and a contoured body for effortless access to upper frets.
Edge Tremolo System – Ibanez’s renowned double-locking trem for ultra-stable tuning and expressive pitch control.
Discontinued in 1999, the JEM77 FP remains one of the longest-running and most beloved models in the JEM line. With its bold aesthetic, versatile tone, and uncompromising build quality, it captures the spirit of late-'80s guitar innovation. This example’s outstanding condition and originality make it a serious piece for collectors, Vai enthusiasts, or anyone looking for a show-stopping vintage Ibanez.
Whether you’re plugging in for a high-gain shred session or preserving it as a piece of guitar history, this JEM77 FP offers exceptional value and vintage appeal. A rare find in for this year—don’t miss your chance to own a piece of the legacy.
