The Altitude Summary

Talk about rare finds - this guitar is in incredible condition and just screams the '80s.  This guitar is 100% original, and shows very little wear to the body aside from a couple of dings as pictured.  This VDY has the original pink DiMarzio PAF Pro & ISCV1 pickups that are UV reactive, the frets show some wear, but really minimal for the age of this guitar.  The top of the guitar shows minimal fading, while on the sides there is some fading near the lower strap button.

Incredibly, this guitar comes with the original warranty card with matching serial number, as well as the original Ibanez pink-lined hard shell case.  Even more incredibly, this guitar does NOT have any neck pocket cracks - crazy. Aside from being all-original with original candy and case, this JEM features an even thinner neck profile compared to other similar-era JEMs and is extremely comfortable to play.

The Ibanez JEM777VDY is a JEM guitar model and a signature of guitarist Steve Vai. It shares similarities with the JEM777DY, but includes a rosewood fingerboard and vine inlay. This rare model is highly coveted and sought after, as it was only produced from 1987-1989.

The 1989 Ibanez JEM 777VDY was created through the collaborative efforts of Steve Vai and Ibanez. This model, released in 1989, is the oldest Jem model and is available in three variations: JEM777DY, JEM777SK, and JEM777LNG. The only distinguishing factor among these models is their color, with Desert Sun Yellow, Shocking Pink, and Loch Ness Green being the respective options.

The 777LNG was the first 777 Jem produced and is limited to only 777 numbered and signed units by Steve Vai. The exact quantity of yellow and pink guitars are unknown, though it's worth noting that pink models were produced from 1987-1987 and yellow models from 1987-1996. The original 777 models featured a basswood body, maple neck & fretboard, Edge tremolo, and DiMarzio PAF Pro pickups. The inlays were also pyramids, gradually decreasing in size as they moved up the neck.

In 1988, a black iteration of the 1989 Ibanez JEM 777 model was released, featuring a rosewood fretboard and the iconic vine inlay. This variant, known as the 777VBK, remained in production until 1992. The following year, two new variations of previous models were introduced: the 777DY and 777SK were revamped with rosewood fretboards and the signature vine inlay, resulting in the 777VDY and 777VSK. While the pink version was discontinued in 1989, the yellow version remained in production until 1991. It is also worth noting that the 777VDY and 777VSK boasted Ibanez's renowned Wizard neck, while other models had thicker necks.
