The PRS McCarty model pays tribute to Ted McCarty, a pioneering figure in guitar innovation. As President of Gibson from 1950 to 1966, McCarty made significant contributions to the electric guitar industry. His collaboration with Paul Reed Smith in the late 1980s began as a mentorship and evolved into a deep friendship, greatly influencing PRS guitars.
In 1994, PRS introduced the inaugural McCarty model, blending McCarty's wisdom with Paul Reed Smith's craftsmanship. This guitar features a slightly thicker back, enhancing tone and sustain, and a 24.594 scale length, cherished for its playability and tonal qualities. The McCarty series includes all-rosewood necks, offering a unique, refined aesthetic alongside exceptional sustain and rich tonal character.
The McCarty model's Dragon II treble and bass pickups provide a warm, vintage-leaning tone with higher output, suitable for various musical styles. These pickups strike a balance between vintage and modern sounds. The push/pull tone control and 3-way toggle pickup switch allow for diverse sonic possibilities, from warm and mellow to bright and cutting tones.
This McCarty model features a bound rosewood fretboard and a PRS stoptail bridge with brass studs, enhancing playability and resonance. These components improve sound quality and add to the guitar's elegant appearance, reflecting PRS's commitment to excellence.
This guitar is in very good condition with minimal dings, only surface scratches from cleaning and playing. The frets have some wear, as pictured, but overall are in great shape. Tonally, this guitar rocks and is a unique find from past PRS years - the all-rosewood neck offers supreme sustain and clarity.
